Government news, all in one place

About Us

Who we are, what we do

Hi, and welcome to GovWire.

GovWire is an independent website created to make it far easier to read, browse, and keep up with news and announcements published by UK public bodies.

Government news matters. It affects policy, funding, services, and everyday life. Yet this news is often buried across multiple sites, presented in a fairly dry way, and not especially easy to explore. GovWire exists to bring all of that information together in one place, presented clearly and accessibly.

Using automated systems, GovWire continuously collects news, announcements, statements, and updates originally published on official public-sector websites, including central government departments and local authorities. New items are fetched throughout the day, categorised, indexed, and stored so they can be searched and browsed by anyone.

Content is organised by both publishing body and policy area, making it easier to follow topics that matter to you, whether that’s transport, health, housing, local government, or national policy.

Although GovWire has been in operation for more than a decade, the site was rebuilt from the ground up over Christmas 2025, and relaunched in Beta phase on the 6th of January 2026.

GovWire republishes public-sector material under the Open Government Licence (OGL) or other applicable reuse permissions. Where required, attribution is clearly given to the original publishing authority. GovWire does not alter the meaning or intent of the original material.

It’s important to be clear with out goal: GovWire is not part of the UK Government, and we don’t represent any government department, minister, or public body. GovWire is owned by CliqTo Ltd, an independent digital publisher, and our role is to organise and present information that is already in the public domain.

Originally launched in December 2015, we've grown steadily ever since. Behind the scenes, the technology has evolved a great deal, but the goal has stayed the same: to provide a fast, reliable, and neutral portal for government news that’s genuinely useful.

If you spot an issue, have an idea, or want to get in touch about GovWire itself, you’re very welcome to contact us. We read every message, and sensible suggestions are always appreciated.

Thanks for stopping by.
