Hallmarking regime saved with help from the public
British Hallmarking Council chairman Tom Murray welcomes official retention of the hallmark.

As Chairman of the British Hallmarking Council, I am delighted that both the government and the British public continue to support the UK hallmarking regime which has been acknowledged as being both well designed and valuable. The public support for retaining the regime was enormous.

I fully support the government’s plans to scrap regulations which are deemed to be unnecessarily burdensome, wholly bureaucratic or completely redundant, following on from the red tape challenge, but as precious metal prices reach new record levels, it is more important than ever that the public are protected from unscrupulous practices in this sector and the integrity of the British Hallmark is as relevant today as it ever has been.
