Foreign Office minister comments on UNICEF report on Syria
Minister for the Middle East Tobias Ellwood comments on UNICEF report highlighting the suffering of children in Syria

Minister Ellwood said:

Six years since protesters stood up to oppression in Syria, it is civilians throughout the country who are still suffering the most. I am appalled at the suffering of children documented by UNICEF, which shows many children killed or injured near schools, including schools the UK is supporting to give Syria’s future generation some hope.

The only way to establish lasting peace in Syria is through a credible and inclusive political transition away from the Assad regime that is responsible for the vast majority of civilian deaths in the country. We must all redouble our efforts to support Syrians to negotiate a stable future through the UN-led talks in Geneva and bring about peace for all Syrians.
