Second Permanent Secretary Head of Mission Delivery Unit at the Cabinet Office appointed

The Cabinet Secretary has announced the appointment of Clara Swinson to the new role of Second Permanent Secretary Head of Mission Delivery Unit at the Cabinet Office. The appointment has been made with the approval of the Prime Minister.

This role will lead the Unit in implementing Mission-led Government across the Civil Service and advise the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster on delivery of the five missions and six First Steps.

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, the Rt. Hon. Pat McFadden, said:

I am delighted to see Clara Swinson bring her extensive experience to this role. I look forward to working with her to deliver our plan for mission-driven government.

The Cabinet Secretary, Simon Case, said:

I would like to congratulate Clara on her appointment. Clara brings a wealth of experience from her previous roles including as the Director General for Global and Public Health at the Department for Health and Social Care. Prior to this, she led the DHSC’s Covid-19 response working closely with the Government Chief Medical Officer and across government. I’d like to wish Clara every success in her new role.

Clara will take up her new post in September.

The appointment follows a Civil Service wide recruitment competition overseen by the Civil Service Commission.
