CNC staff and officers donate hundreds of toys for West Cumbria
Officers and staff at Sellafield Operational Policing Unit (OPU) donated 228 toys in a festive toy appeal, helping many families feel the magic of Christmas.

The Christmas toy appeal was organised by Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) employees at Sellafield to give donations to eight schools across West Cumbria and Hearts of Gold West Cumbria, an organisation that specialises in supporting under privileged families.

The appeal ran from mid-November to December, and, thanks to the generosity of the staff and officers at Sellafield, the number of donations soon snowballed and the original target of 200 toys was surpassed.

Supt Richard Clark, Operational Unit Commander at Sellafield, said; “The response to the Toy Appeal fills me with pride, as it demonstrates what a wonderful and caring group of people work at the OPU.

“The initiative was a true team effort, with colleagues going above and beyond to promote the appeal, collect donations and coordinate their distribution.

“The passion and commitment to supporting the children in our surrounding areas has been inspiring to witness, and I believe it’s a wonderful example of how our people embody the values of compassion and community at this most magical time of the year”.

Mr Hardy, Headteacher at Bookwell Primary School, said: “We’re so thankful to the CNC Police for this kindness and know that these presents will bring smiles to our children who need it most at this time of year.”
