Change4Life’s latest alcohol campaign aims to raise awareness of the health risks associated with drinking too much and urges people to check their drinking and take steps to cut down.

A TV advert, running currently, shows how drinking can easily ‘sneak up on you’ and encourages viewers to check their drinking online using the Change4Life Drinks Checker.

Watch the ad:

The online Drinks Checker helps people keep an eye on how many calories they are consuming and how much they are spending.

A recent Change4Life study found that 40% of participants underestimated how much they drank - on average the equivalent of an extra large glass of wine each day.

There were positive findings however, when participants were offered simple tips on cutting down, they cut their alcohol consumption by over a third, saved money, and consumed fewer calories.

Alcohol guidelines

Alcohol guidelines recommend we should not regularly drink:

  • more than 3 to 4 units per day - for men
  • more than 2 to 3 units per day - for women
