Government response to the second interim assessment from the Stakeholder Advisory Group on extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields.

The Government response to the second interim assessment from the Stakeholder Advisory Group on extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields has been published today.

The Department welcomes this report from the Stakeholder Advisory Group, which provides practical and low cost recommendations on extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields.

Many of the recommendations made in this report support existing industry practices and the Department will continue to work with the Health Protection Agency on these issues and keep the public updated.

The Stakeholder Advisory Group, known as SAGE, involved all key stakeholders in exploring the implications and to make practical recommendations for a precautionary approach to power frequency electric and magnetic fields.

SAGE, which was set up in 2004, is funded equally by the Department of Health, the electricity industry and the charity Children with Cancer UK (originally called Children with Leukaemia).

You can read SAGE’s Second Interim Assessment on electricity distribution including a report on its discussions on science, which was published in 2010.
