The following statistics were released today by the Department of Health:
The key points from the latest release are:
- During the quarter ending 30 June 2011, 12,899 elective operations were cancelled at the last minute for non-clinical reasons. In the same period in 2010, there were 13,233 cancelled elective operations.
- Cancelled elective operations during the quarter represented 0.7% of all elective activity compared to 0.8% in the corresponding period in 2010.
- Of these cancellations, 597 (4.6%) of patients were not treated within 28 days of a cancellation. In the same period in 2010, 396 (3.0%) of patients were not treated within 28 days.
