Many NHS organisations are now using patient level information and costing systems (PLICS).

These systems help organisations understand exactly how costs are built at the most basic and accurate level, that of the patient. The Department continues to support the use of PLICS within the NHS, and to help PLICS organisations produce reference costs it has published a PLICS and reference costs best practice guide.
