On 14 June, the Quality and Safety of Organs Intended for Transplantation Regulations 2012 were laid before Parliament.

These Regulations transpose Directive 2010/53/EU on the standards of quality and safety of human organs intended for transplantation (“the Directive”).

The objective of the Directive is to set standards for the quality and safety of organs across the European Union.  These Regulations will come fully into force on 27 August 2012 as the UK is required to be compliant with the Directive on that date.
