A BBC Panorama programme on 31 May 2011 featured systemic abuse of patients within Winterbourne View, an independent hospital run by Castlebeck Care (Teesdale) Ltd.
This letter provides an update on the Department’s review and alerts NHS bodies and local authorities on the forthcoming inspection to be carried by the Care Quality Commission of 150 sevices responsible for services for people with learning disabilities. It also sets out the action that will need to be taken in order to ensure safety and well being of those people being looked after.
