Very senior managers (VSM) covered by the VSM pay framework are eligible to be considered for a performance related pay award. Guidance has been issued that provides remuneration committees in strategic health authorities, special health authorities, primary care trusts and ambulance trusts with the criteria for the awards for 2011/12. Performance payments are restricted to the top 25 per cent performers with an upper limit on an individual award being 5 per cent of reckonable pay.
