Cocaine seized by Border Force at Gatwick
A man has appeared in court after Border Force officers at Gatwick seized approximately 1.3 kilos of cocaine.

The drugs, which were discovered on Thursday 9 January, once cut and sold on the streets had a potential value of £130,000.

Officers stopped a 29-year-old Portuguese man, Marcos Martins-Goes, who had arrived on a flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil. After questioning him officers searched both luggage and Mr Martins-Goes, and discovered the drugs within the clothing he was wearing.

Mr Martins-Goes was arrested, and the investigation was passed to the National Crime Agency for further enquiries.

He appeared at Croydon Magistrates Court on 10 January. He pleaded guilty and will be sentenced at a later date.

Carole Upshall, Director of Border Force South said:

Cocaine is a vile and destructive drug, which ruin the lives of users and the wider community. Border Force officers are on constant alert to keep illegal drugs and other banned substances out of the UK.

Anyone with information about activity they suspect may be linked to smuggling should call the smuggling Hotline on 0800 59 5000.
