Vacancy for a Chief Inspector of Marine Accidents
We are seeking a Chief Inspector of Marine Accidents. This Southampton-based role is a rare opportunity to influence marine safety in the UK.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring that all accident investigations are conducted thoroughly and effectively and meet the requirements and expectations of national and international regulations.

  • Making widely and publicly available the circumstances, findings, conclusions and safety recommendations arising out of marine accident and serious incident investigations.

  • Acting as professional head of the MAIB, being the principal public voice for the branch and exercising technical oversight of the most complex cases.

  • Identifying safety deficiencies to the maritime sector and promoting improvements through recommendations for change to regulations, requirements, standards and practices.

  • Maintaining a strong relationship with maritime sector bodies.

  • Representing MAIB and the UK in international forums.

  • Supporting wider transport and maritime safety collaboration.

  • Leading and motivating a high-performing, diverse and inclusive team, supporting the development and managing the performance of staff at different stages of their careers.

You must be prepared to travel throughout the UK (for which you will need a full UK driving licence) as well as overseas.
