On Saturday 12 October, a section of the M1 in Belfast was closed after two suspicious objects were found. The PSNI later confirmed they were an elaborate hoax.

Theresa Villiers said:

“Those responsible for these hoaxes show complete disregard for their community and for local business who are set to lose money because of the disruption. They have absolutely no consideration for the families, motorists and elderly people who are affected.”
