The role oversees Ofqual’s general qualifications directorate, which has responsibility for qualification accreditation, standards and awarding. Dr Stockford will report directly to Chief Regulator, Glenys Stacey.
Commenting on the announcement, Glenys Stacey said:
I am delighted to announce Ian’s appointment. He brings valuable experience of general qualifications, as well as a great passion for the sector, both essential qualities as we progress GCSE, AS and A level reform.
Dr Stockford joined Ofqual in 2014 as Deputy Director of Research and Analysis. His previous roles include Head of Research at AQA and as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham.
