We are looking for exceptional solicitors and barristers with legal aid experience to join the Legal Aid Agency’s Appeals Review panel.
The aim is to create a panel of up to 100 independent funding and costs adjudicators (IFCAs).
Among the 100 IFCAs we will need:
- 25 who are able to sit as the Special Controls Review (SCRP) panel
- 20 who are able to sit as the Very High Costs Case (VHCC) panel
How you will work
As an IFCA or member of the SCRP/VHCC panels you will need to use your knowledge and expertise to decide appeals against refusal of funding and provisional assessment of costs.
IFCA members will mainly work alone. However, in exceptional cases members may be asked to join a committee of two or more members.
This will happen where the circumstances of the case require the considered opinions of more than one panel member. SCRP and VHCC sit as panels, usually of three members.
Payment
You will be paid £52 per hour and reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. SCRP and VHCC panels will be paid half-day rates. You will not be an employee of the LAA.
