Nick Ephgrave QPM begins tenure as Director of the SFO
The Serious Fraud Office’s (SFO) new Director, Nick Ephgrave QPM, takes up his position today.

In his first week, he will address the SFO’s staff at the agency’s headquarters in central London, and meet representatives from UK law enforcement agencies and international prosecuting authorities.

Nick’s early priorities include ensuring the SFO is best placed to fulfil its mission and the effective delivery of ongoing cases. 

Speaking on his first day, Nick Ephgrave QPM, Director of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) said:

“Fraud wrecks lives and undermines the economy. I am committed to building the strong, dynamic and pragmatic authority the UK needs to fight today’s most heinous economic crimes.”

About Nick Ephgrave QPM

Nick brings to the SFO over 30 years of experience at the top of UK law enforcement. He previously served as Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service and Chief Constable for Surrey Police. Most recently, he was Chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council Criminal Justice Co-ordination Committee, and held roles on the Criminal Procedure Rules Committee and at the Sentencing Council.

About the SFO

The SFO, headed by the Director, is a specialist investigating and prosecuting authority that tackles the most serious or complex cases of fraud, bribery, and corruption. It is a Non-Ministerial Government Department and is operationally independent from Government. The Director represents the Office and their responsibilities include launching investigations and prosecutions. Under the Criminal Justice Act 1987, they also have authority to compel individuals to provide information.
