All three were convicted of conspiracy to burgle following an eight month burglary campaign in the counties of Northumbria, Durham, Cleveland and North Yorkshire. When they were caught, the trio admitted responsibility for a total of 19 burglaries.
The trio received the following sentences for conspiracy to burgle:
- Richard Copeland: 5 years
- Glenn Milburn: 5 years
- Ian Froom: 3 year and 4 months
These sentences were today quashed and replaced with increased custodial terms:
- Richard Copeland: 6 years and 8 months
- Glenn Milburn: 6 years and 8 months
- Ian Froom: 5 years and 4 months
The sentences were referred to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme by the Solicitor General, Robert Buckland QC MP who today said:
“These men committed a campaign of burglary across the north of England, causing significant sentimental and financial loss to everyone affected. I felt the original sentences did not fully reflect the misery and trauma experienced by the victims and I hope that today’s sentences offer some comfort to the victims.”
